New Patient Appointments

A general new patient appointment will be between 20 and 30 minutes in length. In general this is enough time to perform an accurate examination. Unfortunately we cannot book longer initial appointments due to some who book appointments and do not attend.

Please arrive a few minutes early for the appointment as there will be some paperwork to complete including a medical history questionnaire. You can fill this in ahead of time and bring it to your appointment.

We are committed to a high standard of NHS care. This cannot be done quickly. Our dentists have experience working in a dental hospital environment and endeavour to diagnose problems and formulate treatment plans according to current best practice.

At the first visit, patients are required to do or bring the following:

• You will complete a medical history. It is important to bring details of any medication you are taking and any warning cards you may have.
• We will listen to any problems you have and try and address these during the appointment
• A full charting will be recorded.
• A periodontal examination will be recorded (BPE).
• It may be necessary to take some X-Rays. These are often looked at at the same time.
• It may be necessary to take some impressions of your teeth to make plaster models.
• We will then try and formulate a treatment plan for you.
• It is not usually possible to carry out any treatment at this visit, the time is used to complete all the above.
• In difficult/complex cases it may be necessary to make you an additional appointment to come back and discuss the treatment plan further.
