Today, they are widely used for the same purpose, but as a more permanent solution, lasting up to 15 years if properly cared for. A veneer fits over the top of a tooth, protecting it from further wear and tear. They can be likened to how a false nail fits over a real nail.
During your first visit, the tooth is prepared. Your dentist will carefully remove a very small amount of tooth matter to make room for the veneer that will go over the top of the damaged tooth. The amount of tooth enamel removed is the same as the thickness of the veneer. We will then take a 3D scan of your tooth to send to the dental technician, and inform them of the shade you and your dentist decided on for your new veneer. You will be given a temporary veneer to wear whilst your new veneer is being made. When we receive it back from the lab, we can invite you back to the practice to have it fitted.
